Grass isn’t greener on the other side, its weed

Everybody must be thinking what the hell is she talking about? The original saying is Grass is always greener on the other side, there is no weed in the quote. That’s what I wish to demystify today.

All our life, we look at others’ lives mostly to compare ours. We think the latest tools, the shiny objects, the coolest vacation trips, the large homes of the others are the real wealth and happiness and we end up comparing our paycheck, homes, physical features and all other things with them.

We all do it, some do it knowingly while some unknowingly and we all mostly end up comparing others net-worth to our self-worth.

So, why it’s not green but weeds?

Just imagine our life is like a garden. When we were born, we had a plain soil with us and then we added a seed that were our dreams, goals and our intentions. We planted a seed that we wished to grow into a plant that was our true self. As we started to grow, we started to compare ourselves with our friends, siblings, colleagues and enemies, and then we unconsciously started to grow weeds in our garden. These weeds are nothing but the things that we got influenced or tried copying from others thinking that it’s the plant we are growing in the garden. But then they were nothing but weeds in our garden that went unchecked. Since we didn’t supervise or police our garden carefully every single day, these weeds started to grow strong and they started to surround the plant to ensure it gets chocked to death so that we see these weeds as plants where as our original plant is either lost or died.

The real problem of life occurs when we put our energy, time and resource into these weeds instead of the original plant. Most of our life all our attention and mental capacity get drained into feeding these weeds and the plant that we originally planted gets neglected and forgotten by us and we end up viewing others garden greener where as its nothing but vicious creepers.

It takes lot of time, energy and policing to control these weeds from growing. In spite of me being quite disciplined and intentional in life, I many times allow these weeds to grow into my life. Hence it becomes very important for me to start saying no to things. No to the things that are not in alignment with health and growth of my plant. Sometimes the process of removing the weeds is painful for me, because these weeds have roots and they are tied to my emotions. I have attachments to these things as I have associated my self-worth with them. But a regular decluttering of things, a regular audit of my time, emotions and people around me help me remain focused on keeping my garden of life clean so that the original plant remains the true green.
