Self love is not selfish it is an intentional choice of self care.

Wearing high heels was not only my favorite part of dressing but also as a source of confidence, until this belief was shaken by my road accident on Jan 28th 2019. The accident not only broke my ankle but also my confidence. I had to undergo two intense surgeries and get implants placed on my ankle so that I could stand back on my feet and walk in life.

I took this injured leg picture when I was at Goa in May 2019 as I had just started standing on my feet after 5 months of being a bed ridden creature on earth. I took this picture with the intention of sending it to my family so that they could sympathize more with my wound. But something within me said that this was not an external wound, but an internal wound that needs healing. I was awakened in a moment and I began to search for ways or sources that could heal me faster and generate love inside me. While I was doing that, I got introduced to familiar yet alien concepts like self love and self care, because I was conditioned to think that self love and self-care is selfish and one cannot be selfish, it is wrong.

The intense study and my personal experience on this concept made me realize that Self love is not selfish but self responsibility to take care of oneself irrespective of any circumstances. It is about filling your cup of love first so that you can give it to others. It is about loving yourself exactly the way a mother would love her infant, making sure he or she is loved, fed and protected first and on time.

Thanks to mindfulness, minimalism and self love I am out of this caged thinking and after two years of genuine love, care and right exercises, I now wear my heels with love and respect.
